Maribor

La mia esperienza Erasmus+ si svolge a Maribor, seconda città della Slovenia per grandezza e capitale europea della cultura nel 2012. Si tratta di una città legata alle tradizioni passate ma allo stesso tempo molto moderna, e questo mi ha fortemente colpito. È frequente infatti trovarsi di fronte a palazzi segnati dal tempo, con affianco altri che sembrano appena stati costruiti. Inoltre qui è facile orientarsi, nonostante le numerose stradine.

My Erasmus+ experience takes place in Maribor, the second largest city in Slovenia and the european capital of culture in 2012. It’s a town linked to the tradicions of the past, but at the same time it’s very modern. I was really impressed by this characteristic. In fact, it’s common to find buildings scarred by time, near others that look pretty new. Moreover, it’s easy to find your bearings, even if there are a lot of narrow streets.

Un pomeriggio impegnativo/ A challenging afternoon

Il 17 ottobre insieme a Robert e Maja di Rajzefiber, abbiamo fatto una piccola gita nei dintorni di Maribor per conoscere meglio il posto.
Partendo dall’ufficio, abbiamo cominciato a dirigerci verso le alture che circondano la città. Dunque abbiamo  cominciato a salire per andare al Piramida. Il nome deriva dalla piramide/obelisco  che è stato costruito con le macerie del castello demolito nel 1790 circa. Una volta arrivati siamo rimasti subito colpiti dalla vista sulla città, ma anche dai resti del castello. Successivamente, passando per il parco, ci siamo diretti verso il Kalvarija, dove è presente una piccola chiesa, per scendere infine attraverso i famosi 500 gradini.

On October 17th, together with Robert and Maja from Rajzefiber, we had a little trip on the outskirts of Maribor, to discover something new about the city.
Starting by the office, we moved towards the high ground surrounding the city.
So we proceeded to climb up to the Pyramid. The name comes from the pyramid-like obelisk built from the debris from the Upper Maribor Castle, which was demolished in about 1790.
Once there, we’ve been immediately impressed by the view of the city, but we’ve been impressed by the remains of the castle too. Then, passing through the park, we headed to Kalvarija, where there is a little church, and finallly, we got down through the famous 500 stairs.

Museum of National Liberation Maribor

Ieri pomeriggio, dopo il lavoro, abbiamo conosciuto due nuove arrivate dalla Germania, che faranno un’esperienza simile alla nostra.
Ci siamo incontrati in piazza Glavni trg e da lì ci siamo diretti al Museo Nazionale della Liberazione. Questo tratta della storia moderna della Slovenia. Una volta arrivati, abbiamo trovato una guida ad attenderci. Il percorso è durato circa un’ora e abbiamo imparato tante curiosità sulla città.

Yesterday afetrnoon, after work, we met two new girls arrived from Germany, who will make an experience similar to our.
We’ve met in Glavni trg square and from there we headed to the Museum of National Liberation. It’s about modern history of Slovenia. After arrival we found a guide who was waiting for us. The tour lasted about an hour during which we’ve learned a lot of curiosities about the city.

Ljubljana

Sabato, tutto il gruppo Erasmus+ è stato a Ljubljana, la capitale della Slovenia.
La giornata era soleggiata, con un clima perfetto. Appena arrivati, abbiamo dato un’occhiata ai luoghi di maggiore interesse, e poco dopo abbiamo cominciato a dirigerci verso il castello della città. Una volta affrontata la salita, siamo entrati all’interno delle mura del castello. Da qui abbiamo potuto godere della vista su Ljubljana. Successivamente, siamo scesi dalla montagnetta e abbiamo cominciato a visitare i negozi della città.

Saturday, all the Erasmus+ group has been in Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia.
It was a sunny day, with a perfect weather. When we arrived, we got a look at the most interesting places, and shortly after we started heading to the castle of the town.
After arrival, we came inside the walls of the castle. From here we enjoyed the overview on Ljubljana. Afterward, we walked back down the mound and we started walking through the narrow streets and touring local shops.

The Watchtower of Maribor

Oggi, insieme ai miei colleghi d’ufficio, siamo andati a visitare la torre della cattedrale di St. John the Baptist. È famosa per essere stata la torre del guardiano anti incendi:  esso viveva in una stanza in cima alla torre, in modo che così potesse individuare gli eventuali incendi nella città. L’ultima a vivere nella torre, è stata una donna di nome Antonia Weiss, guardiana fino al 1933.
Al giorno d’oggi la torre non ha più una funzione di protezione, ma si può comunque visitare. Per questo nonostante la mia paura dell’altezza, sono salita fino in cima a godermi la vista della città.

Today, together with my colleagues, we went to visit the tower of St. John the Baptist Cathedral. It’s famous for have been the tower of the guardian: he lived in a room on the top of the tower, so he could identify the fire in the city. The last guardian was a woman, named Antonia Weiss, who protected the city  until the year 1933. Nowadays, the tower has no more protective function, but you can still visit it. That’s why despite my fear of heights, I went up to the top of the tower to enjoy the view of the city.

 

Nei dintorni di Maribor/On the outskirts of Maribor

Domenica pomeriggio, con alcuni compagni siamo andati a fare una faticosa passeggiata su una piccola montagnetta sopra la città (Kalvarija), fino ad arrivare ad una chiesa. Una volta arrivati su, siamo rimasti sorpresi dalla bellezza del panorama.

On Sunday afternoon, with some companions we went for a tiring walk on a little mound near the city (Kalvarija), until you get to a church. Once we got to the top, we were surprised by the beauty of the landscape .

Gita a Pohorje/A walk in Pohorje

Sabato siamo andati a fare una gita a Pohorje.
Abbiamo preso l’autobus in mattinata e siamo arrivati alla base della montagna, per poi prendere la funivia.

On Saturday we went for a walk in Pohorje.
We took the bus in the morning and we arrived at the base of the mountain, then we took the ski-lift.

Dopodiché, una volta scesi dalla funivia, abbiamo cominciato una camminata per i sentieri nel bosco, accompagnati da una guida.

After that, once we got off from the ski-lift, we started a walk in the wood accompanied by a guide.

Abbiamo pranzato con una zuppa di funghi in un ristorante del posto, e infine siamo tornati indietro.

We had a mushroom soup for lunch in a local restaurant , and finally we went back to Maribor.

 

Pokrajinski muzej Maribor

Per capire un po’ le origini e la storia di Maribor, la settimana scorsa, insieme al mio gruppo Erasmus+ abbiamo visitato il museo Pokrajinski della città. È di dimensioni molto grandi, ma siamo riusciti comunque a vederlo tutto.

To understand the origins and the history of Maribor, last week with my Erasmus+ group, we’ve visited the museum of the town (the Pokrajinski Museum). It’s very large, but we got to see it all.
